Do You Regularly Reinstall Windows?

Windows has numerous design and structural flaws making it slower and slower with time. You are probably one among the people who does a fresh install of Windows when it starts getting sluggish and loaded. Reinstalling windows might help. But is that really necessary? NO is the answer. There are so many tricks you can try out on your PC before you decide to reinstall your PC because it really might help. It might be one or two apps or unwanted programs that might be causing the problems. Before we see how we can make our windows system faster, let's see some common culprits that generally makes our system slower.

Startup Programs - Most programs, during the installation creates a registry value to automatically start it along with the Windows boot. So if you have a Windows PC with a very bad booting time, chances are there are additional startup programs installed on your PC which consumes lots of memory and resources. These days even newly purchased computers comes with lots of crapwares pre-installed making life miserable for PC users.
Plugins and Services - There are so many applications that adds shortcut to the Windows Explorer context menu making the explorer incredibly slow. Many programs also install services that runs in the background consuming a heavy amount of your system resources. So you will not be able to see them since they will be running int he background silently. In most cases, they are redundant and useless to your computer.
PC Cleaning Tools - You must be thinking WTH when you are reading this. But let's face it, 90% of the PC cleaning and optimizing tools out there which promises to optimize your PC for maximum performance are scams. They can make your computer even slower, consuming resources and taking up unwanted memory. Programs like Ashampoo Optimizer, TuneUp Utilities etc ironically makes your PC slower by running themselves in the background and starting up during the system boot. Some of them might even install adwares along with it during the installation.
Heavy Antivirus Programs - Heavy antivirus programs like Norton eats up hell lot of your memory with their heuristic protection and real-time scanning engines. You often do not require a complete security suite. A simple program like Microsoft Security Essentials along with something like Malwarebytes should be more than enough to keep you secure if you are quite good at using common sense.
Browser Toolbars - Addons and browser extensions like the Ask toolbar, Ant downloader etc will heavily slow down your browsing experience and the loading time for your browser. It is heavily recommended that you uninstall these addons from your browser and better yet, use none of them.

Install only well written, small and clean programs that are absolute freewares.
Make sure you do not install add-ons, browser extensions or toolbars while installing other programs.
Regularly visit 'Add or remove programs' in Control Panel and remove any programs you do not use.
Regularly use a tool like Ccleaner to clean your PC and fix registry problems.
Uninstall any browser extensions or unwanted addons. The only add-ons you should use is addons like Adblock Plus or NoScript.
Use light weight security programs like MSE or MBAM. If you are on Windows 7 or 8, it comes preinstalled with Windows Defender and it is not really necessary to install any other AV programs.
Use portable programs. Nowadays, 90% of the programs are available in the portable version. It's advantage is that it does not register itself to your computer and hence has 0% effect on your computers performance. It requires no installtion and is 100% safe.
After uninstalling programs, check the Program Files folder and remove any left over files or .dll files remaining after the installation of a particular program.

If you take care of your PC properly by following the above steps and keeping a general eye on everything, there is absolutely no need to reinstall your operating system every once in a while. But if an upgrade of your Operating System is released, you should always reinstall your PC with the upgraded operating system in order to be safe from all the vulnerabilities and 0-days for the previous versions. Another case in which you might want to reinstall is if none of the above steps work and you can't get it faster no matter what you have tried. It might be malwares or adwares causing the problem and reinstalling might be the easiest solution to get rid of it completely. And if you haven't reinstalled your PC for several years and you are still not having much problems, it still is not required that you must reinstall your operating system. More over, it's a sign that you are taking good care of your system.

Enjoy =D
